I know I'm always saying that I won't play Dwarfs again until they get a new book, but I really love the little guys and I can never resist the temptation to try to make them competitive. Anyway, what do you think of this list?

Runelord on anvil w/2 scrolls and re-rollable 2+
BSB w/re-rollable 1+ and S5
Dragon Slayer of pain

10 thunderers w/mus
10 quarellers w/mus
15 warriors w/full command and shields
10 longbeards w/full command, shields, GW, banner rune of 5+ ward v shooting
15 slayers w/giant slayer
15 slayers w/giant slayer

reliable cannon
reliable cannon w/flaming shots

gyrocopter
organ gun

I think it's a 7 on comp. It's unorthodox, but I think it could put up a fight against most non-OTT lists. The shooting should be enough to do some damage to incoming enemies and the 5+ ward v shooting should protect my slayers from incoming fire (a little). Lots of things these days can break through 10 slayers in a single turn, but I'm not sure how many units can break through 15 slayers in a single turn. Obviously, the plan after that is to flank. The anvil (assuming it performs) and the gyrocopter will hopefully be enough to keep my guys from getting counter-flanked.

I kinda see how it works, but I really think that miners are a better idea than the Slayers. Maybe just replace one unit?

To me the thing that makes the Anvil really good is: turmoil. If you can cause units not to move, or help your units charge, that is what makes it good.

When you look at playing other friendly level armies, the nice thing about the Anvil is it can help you "deepstrike" another army. Just imagine two units of Miners against a Skaven army? The Gyro, Miners, decent shooting, all adds up to good "turmoil" :D

In this case the cannons take the place of the miners. They're almost as disruptive, but they'll still function if the anvil guy gets stupid all of a sudden. I admit it's experimental.

Well I thought in retrospect the list worked pretty well. I just wonder how it would do against an army that is more "choppy". We'll find out another day when I have time to get the Orcs out of the box.

This army would do great against Orcs because the slayers all jump to strength 4 and re-roll misses in the first round of combat. The reason I put in 15-man slayer units instead of 10 is because even very choppy units will have a hard time killing 15 T4 guys in a single turn, by which point I should be able to flank with something else. I'd expect high-model-count non-Orc armies to do well against this build, (Skaven would probably be great), as well as any army that doesn't care about getting flanked.
